About Me

About LIC DesignsMy name is Debbie Dorris and I was born & raised in Houston Texas. I currently live in Friendswood with my husband and 2 Labradors. I’ve been a member of Sagemont Church since I gave my heart & my life to Jesus Christ in 1988 and am actively involved in Precept Bible studies. My husband and I, along with our Labs, volunteer with the Son Light Pet Ministry at church and I also volunteer with The Houston Medical Bridges. If you’re in the Houston area and looking for a place to serve, we’d love to have you with us. Send me an email and I’ll get you the information.

Although I have always worked full time, in 2004 after 15 years with the Harris County Medical Society, I was able to retire and stay home (thanks to my wonderful hubby David). I still work one day a week on a contract basis so I get a little spending money, get to see all my friends, and teach a bible study at lunch. It doesn’t get any better than that! I love retirement, although I’ve come to wonder how I EVER had time to work – I’m always so busy. But I can’t tell you how much I love my life!!!! I have the best husband, the best family, the best neighbors, the best friends, and the best Lord & Savior. Thank you Jehovah-jireh, You’re provisions are above all I could ask or imagine. And if retirement wasn’t enough to keep me active, now I’m “in business” -

So how did I get into this business? It’s really quite a wonderful story…

The summer of 2006 was a great time! Not only did our church celebrated its 40 year anniversary but my closest friends and I did a home study on the names of God which forever changed me. I came away from that study with a deeper understanding of what Jesus meant when he prayed in John 17:26 “I have made Your name known to them…” and a renewed passion for who He is. So I wanted to give a gift to my friends so we would never forget and was inspired to create a calligraphy poster of the names of God. Although I have been writing poetry and playing with calligraphy since I was in high school, the busyness of adult life seems to have drown all those, what I like to call “piddle and ponder” moments, when I seemed to find my best inspiration. But I’m starting to find them again and I’m trying hard not to squash them out with “stuff”.

Now because it was our 40th anniversary at church we were committing ourselves to a “Living Proof Project” and I gave my Names of God poster as a gift to our bible study ministry to sell and raise money for the 40th anniversary. In less than 3 months we made over $1000 and I have committed to the Lord that my net sales on this print will go towards that until it is over. Well not too long after that, a friend was noticing a card I had written for a wedding shower and encouraged me to start writing greeting cards. I could use the theme “the names of God”. I was excited and began work right away even including poetry I had written so long ago. I think it took me a couple of days and I had most of them finished. I currently have 13 of the 17 names I know, but am hoping to have 15 in the end. All in all it’s been an exciting journey so far and I am anxious to see what the Lord does with it and to Him be all the glory and the praise! Amen!
